Welcome to ECMM2024!

Dear colleagues and friends,

Every two years, the European Institute of Molecular Magnetism (EIMM), together with the selected research groups belonging to the European community of molecular magnetism, organizes the European Conference on Molecular Magnetism (ECMM).

The first such conference was organized in Tomar (Portugal) in 2006 and followed by seven consecutive ECMMs in Wrocław (Poland, 2009), Paris (France, 2011), Karlsruhe (Germany, 2013), Zaragoza (Spain, 2015), Bucharest (Romania, 2017), Florence (Italy, 2019), and Rennes (France, 2022). The next 9th edition, ECMM2024, will be organized in Kraków from July, 15th to July, 19th 2024, by our research groups working at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków - the oldest university in Poland, established in 1364 by Polish King Casimir III the Great. It is our great pleasure to invite you to attend this event.

ECMM is one of the main events for all researchers working in the field of molecular magnetism and related areas all over the world with the attention particularly devoted to the progress of this research area in Europe. The conference topics cover all aspects of molecular magnetism, including molecular nanomagnets, magnetically ordered phases, spin-crossover and electron-transfer systems, switchable and multifunctional molecular magnets, nanomaterials based on molecular magnets, molecules for quantum computing and spintronics, as well as magnetic, electronic, and optical devices, and other related topics. We believe that ECMM2024 will become a great forum for discussion among leading chemists, physicists, and materials scientists, as well as young researchers, working in molecular magnetism and related fields.

As with every ECMM conference, the 2024 event will host the Olivier Kahn International Award (OKIA) and an invited lecture will be given by the recipient of this award. The program of ECMM2024 will include plenary lectures broadening the scope of interest for the European molecular magnetism community, as well as invited lectures focusing on selected hot topics in the field. A special session dedicated to oral presentations of young researchers eligible for the next edition of the ERC Starting Grant is also planned. Numerous contributed talks and poster presentations will complete the ECMM2024 program.

The main event of ECMM2024 will be preceded by a Young ECMM pre-conference which will be organized from July, 14th to July, 15th 2024 in the same place as ECMM2024. It is aimed to provide the opportunity for the youngest researchers, including PhD students and post-docs up to 2 years after graduation, to present their results in the form of oral communications which will accompany the poster presentation during the main ECMM conference. The program of a Young ECMM pre-conference will also include 3 invited talks of leading scientists of the molecular magnetism field.

We offer you participation in the said scientific meetings, ECMM2024 and Young ECMM2024, which will be held in the new building of the Faculty of Chemistry, Jagiellonian University. We also do hope that this will be a great opportunity for you to enjoy the beautiful city of Kraków, which is the second-largest and one of the oldest cities in Poland. It is known as one of the leading centers of Polish academic, economic, cultural, and artistic life. It is also considered one of the most beautiful European cities with its impressive Old Town, including the Main Square, the Wawel Royal Castle, and the Kazimierz District. Kraków is situated close to the impressive Wieliczka Salt Mine and Polish mountains. At the end of the conference, we will organize two excursions that will allow participants to visit the Wieliczka Salt Mine or enjoy the area of the Pieniny mountains, including experiencing the rafting tour.

We hope to see you in Kraków in summer 2024!
